The General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army (PLAGH) was founded in 1953, it has developed itself into a large modern general hospital that has numerous professional talents, all clinical disciplines, state-of-the-art equipments and unique predominance,directly under the joint logistics support force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. The hospital is an important health care base for the personnel from the central government. It is responsible for the medical care of the military commissions, headquarters and other units, medical care for officers and soldiers, provision of transferring for medical treatment for different military services, diagnosis and treatment of intractable diseases. The hospital is also a medical school of the People's Liberation Army. Its teaching content is mainly postgraduate education. It is the only teaching unit run by the hospital in the whole army.

According to the information on the official website of the hospital in December 2015, in the hospital, there are currently 165 clinical and medical technical departments, 233 nursing units, 8 national key departments, 1 national Key laboratory, 20 provincial and ministerial-level and military-level key laboratories, 33 military specialized medical centers and research institutes, forming 13 professional advantages characterized by comprehensive diagnosis and treatment. At the same time, it is the intensive care demonstration base for the whole army and the training base of the Chinese Nursing Society. There are international medical centers and health medical centers, providing high-end preventive health care services. Every year, more than 4.9 million patients in need of emergency treatment will come to the outpatient department of the hospital. Besides, it receives 198,000 people each year, and nearly 90,000 operations are performed.
